Nigeria’s Brain Gain: Nabila’s Return | SDG 4&5
Episode Introduction
Credo Voices, the podcast where we bring you inspiring stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. I’m your host, Awele Okigbo, the CEO of Credo Advisory.
Nigeria boasts a vibrant young population, but for many girls, reaching their full potential is significantly challenged.Limited access to quality education, unemployment, and deep-rooted gender inequalities hold them back.
Alarmingly, the United Nations Children’s Fund reports that over 10 million Nigerian girls are out of school. Insecurity, early marriage, lack of resources, and a failing educational infrastructure fuel this crisis. In this episode of Credo Voices, we are in Nigeria, connecting with Nabila Aguele, who is the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of Girl Rising. Nabila is driving progressive policies, narratives, and movements aimed at promoting gender equality, innovation, and social inclusion.
Nabila is advancing Sustainable Development Goal 4, quality education, and Goal 5, gender equality. Listen and be inspired by her transformative story.

Nabila holds esteemed positions as a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Global Development and a Senior Fellow with the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET). Previously, she made significant strides as a Special Adviser to Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, playing a pivotal role in developing Nigeria’s Integrated National Financing Framework to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Her efforts also include championing gender-responsive fiscal policies and budgets, leading to the establishment of Nigeria’s gender-responsive budget. Beyond her policy work, Nabila lends her expertise to several influential organizations. She serves on the boards of Women for Women International, INSEAD, and Girl Rising, where she is Vice-Chair of the Board and Chair of the Nominating & Governance Committee.
Nabila’s academic credentials include a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto, a Juris Doctor from the American University Washington College of Law, and an MBA from INSEAD, where she graduated as Valedictorian. Outside her professional achievements, she is a proud mother of three vibrant children under eight and is an acrylic artist.
