The Bloom Effect

The global social impact space is filled with passionate leaders working tirelessly to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges, from climate change to gender equality. Yet despite this passion, many changemakers, especially those from underrepresented communities in the Global South, face isolation and lack access to vital networks and mentorship. Jasmine Anouna, founder of The Bloom, is dedicated to bridging these gaps. Through The Bloom’s curated resources and community-building initiatives, she is creating a movement that empowers underserved changemakers to thrive.

Born to refugee and immigrant parents, Jasmine’s path was shaped by early struggles with mental health and systemic injustice. While interning at the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), she experienced first-hand how difficult it was to access mentorship and resources in the social impact space. Feeling stuck and disconnected, she recognised the urgent need for a space where changemakers could access guidance, share opportunities, and connect beyond silos. These experiences became the catalyst for building The Bloom—a platform grounded in connection, equity, and collaboration.

In this episode, Jasmine highlights that while many social change leaders are tackling similar issues, they often remain siloed, with few opportunities to collaborate or learn from each other. This disconnection is particularly acute in the digital space, where underrepresented voices, especially from the Global South, risk being further excluded. Without a unified platform, opportunities for visibility, mentorship, and community remain limited.

The personal toll of this disconnection is equally pressing. Many leaders struggle with burnout and a sense of hopelessness, compounded by the absence of accessible mentorship and supportive communities. By creating a safe, inclusive, and values-aligned space, Jasmine is working to change this reality—ensuring changemakers can find the support and connection needed to sustain their work.

The Bloom began as a weekly newsletter, now reaching over 45,000 readers with a blend of art, interviews, fellowships, grants, and opportunities. It has since grown into a vibrant learning platform that curates mentorship and networking events from global partners, while also hosting a dynamic job board and “reciprocity hubs” to spark meaningful connections. Beyond the digital, The Bloom organises and supports in-person gatherings in cities like Barcelona, Stockholm, Rio de Janeiro, London, Berlin, and Nairobi, blending online networks with real-world community. At its heart, the platform amplifies underrepresented voices, providing radical visibility to women and marginalised leaders in social impact and often sparking new opportunities for those featured. In doing so, it advances Sustainable Development Goals such as Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10) and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). More than a platform, The Bloom is nurturing a new generation of resilient, collaborative changemakers—ensuring no leader is left behind.

“What Jasmine is building is reshaping how we think about social change,” says Awele Okigbo, CEO of Credo Advisory. “The Bloom goes beyond digital networking—it helps to heal systemic divides and fosters a truly inclusive global community of changemakers. This is the kind of leadership the world needs today.”
