Credo Advisory Supports UKNIAF for State-Level Climate Finance Discourse

Credo Advisory played a pivotal role in shaping the future of climate action in Nigeria by providing event communications support at the recent Roundtable on State Access to Climate Finance held in Abuja, Nigeria on May 29th and 30th, 2024.

The Roundtable, organised by UKNIAF and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, convened state commissioners, Directors General, and other key state government officials to exchange insights and experiences on accessing climate finance to achieve development goals.

Nigeria faces significant exposure to climate change impacts that threaten productive capacity and food security. However, there are opportunities in new sectors, technologies, and innovations aimed at mitigating these impacts.

Adequate climate finance is necessary to take advantage of these opportunities, yet only a tiny portion currently makes its way to Nigeria, with even less focus on sub-national levels. Climate finance offers a beacon of hope, but accessing it requires meticulous development of “bankable” projects.

Credo Advisory’s technical assistance included event branding, video production, and media relations. With our support, UKNIAF led high-level discussions on upcoming climate finance options for developing credible projects that attract investments through carbon market financing. Additionally, the participants explored the opportunities, realities, and challenges of issuing state-level green bonds for financing or refinancing projects, creating a platform for inter-state collaborative discussions.

One key moment at the Roundtable was the peer-to-peer learning and sharing session among state representatives, providing a platform for them to demonstrate their climate finance integration with development priorities. The discussion included open conversations about experiences, successes, and challenges. This exchange of knowledge and insights enriched the discussions, leading to innovative solutions and stronger state partnerships.

Abayomi Afolabi, a Senior Communications Specialist at Credo Advisory mentioned that “Credo Advisory’s involvement in the event underscores our commitment to using strategic communications to enhance climate resilience and advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).”
