Credo Advisory conducted townhall engagement exercises in 7 communities in Niger and Sokoto states for the World Bank funded Nigeria Electrification Project. The engagement exercises were conducted in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) from the 26th to 30th of November 2018.
The Nigeria Electrification Project, implemented by the REA, aims to increase electricity access for Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMSEs) and rural dwellers across Nigeria through renewable off grid energy solutions. The community townhall engagement was conducted to sensitize members of selected communities on the benefits of solar electricity to obtain their support for the successful implementation of the project.
Present at the community townhall engagement were Community Leaders, Women and Youth Association of Diddiba Community, Sokoto State, representatives from the Sokoto State Energy Working Group, Dukku Women Group, Niger State, Dakashi of Dukku, Niger state, community leaders of Sabon Gari Ushe, Niger state, youth associations and other members of the communities. Participants were educated on productive uses of power, the importance of female participation in providing and sustaining power in homes and businesses and the need to work together through the Electricity Users Cooperative Society (EUCS) to solve problems and learn about electricity.
The community engagement exercise was conducted by Awele Okigbo, Chief Executive – Credo Advisory, Aisha Oiza Zubairu, Communications Analyst – Credo Advisory and officials of Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency.
