Episode Introduction

Credo Voices, the podcast where we bring you inspiring stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. I’m your host, Awele Okigbo. A pregnant woman dies every two minutes due to complications in childbirth. This happens 800 times a day according to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeepers 2023 report.

By the time you finished listening to this podcast, about 15 women would have died. Giving life shouldn’t cost a life. My guest today is trying to change that. Her name is Ashu Martha Agbornyenty, but she’s Martha to us. She’s a registered midwife in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Cameroon has one of the highest maternal and neonatal mortality rates. Martha’s work to save mothers and their babies is Advancing Sustainable Development Goal 3 – good health and well-being. This is Martha in her own words, sharing her story. Let’s listen and be inspired.
