Racing Towards SDG 2030: Goalkeepers Highlight at the 2023 Annual Event

As a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeeper, Credo Advisory attended the Foundation’s Goalkeepers Event for the second consecutive year in New York from September 19 – 20. This year’s event united more than 400 global changemakers dedicated to driving progress toward achieving the Global Goals for Sustainable Development by 2030.

The event theme, “Imagine a World”, prompted participants to envision solutions for universal access to family planning, lifesaving health solutions, and the reduction of maternal and child mortality. The event occurred during the UN General Assembly week with discussions on current and future efforts to achieve the Global Goals through concrete action and new approaches to development finance.

Notable participants included Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan, President William Ruto of Kenya, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Bill Gates, and Melinda French Gates. The Farmlink Project, Ashu Martha Agbornyenty, and Eden Tadasse were recognised with the Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards for their impactful contributions to making the world a better place. Bono, founder of the ONE Campaign and (RED) was also awarded the Goalkeepers Voice Award as a leader in the fight against poverty and AIDS for two decades.

Awele Okigbo, Credo Founder/CEO, stated, “Everyone has a role to play in creating a safer, cleaner, fairer and more resilient world. I am neither a policymaker nor a world leader. I don’t have to be. I am a Goalkeeper, and I am reminded that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.”

This year’s event is significant as it marks the halfway point to the 2030 deadline for achieving the 17 Global Goals. As a Goalkeepers, Credo remains committed to achieving the SDGs through its work in educating, changing behaviours and creating partnerships. This reflects our ongoing dedication to contributing to a better, sustainable future.
