Stakeholder Interviews at the Up-scaling Mini-Grids Event – Africa Mini-Grids Summit, Nigeria

Awele Okigbo – Chief Executive, Credo Advisory was invited to facilitate an interview at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Mini-Grid Summit in Nigeria that took place on December 4-8, 2017.

The event featured high ranking public sector officials including the Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola. It was attended by business leaders, members of the National Assembly, representatives from the Office of the Vice President, development partners, various Federal Government MDAs, and other stakeholders in the Nigerian renewable energy sector.

The interview session examined:

  • The role of renewables the new REA Off-Grid strategy
  • The benefits of the Energizing Education Programme (EEP) and how will it change the lives of the rural communities
  • The role of the Rural Electrification Fund (REF) in the off-grid electrification development in Nigeria
  • The immediate and medium-term plans of the REF, and opportunities for collaborations

The interview session also explored how REA is working towards the goals set out in the Rural Electrification Strategy Implementation Plan (RESIP) to make reliable electricity available to 75% of the population by 2020 and how the Upscaling Mini-Grids event will help to scale up the deployment of mini-grids in Nigeria.
